How we rank
The headphones music lovers actually recommend. Here is exactly what that means.
What we count
For every pair on the list we read public discussions on Head-Fi, the Steve Hoffman and AudioKarma forums, the What Hi-Fi forum, ResetEra, Hacker News and similar places. Reddit is not included yet; it will be added as soon as we can read it reliably, and the counts will grow. We count how many distinct people recommend the pair. One person saying it five times counts once. As of Sep 2026 that is 200 recommendations across 34 threads and reviews for 20 headphones.
We also separate owners (people who say they use the pair) from secondhand recommendations (people passing on what they have heard). The card shows both.
What the count means, and what it does not
A high count means many real people are happy enough to tell strangers to buy it. That is useful when you know nothing about headphones. It is not a measurement of sound quality. A pair can be popular because it is cheap, easy to find, or has been around for years. That is why every card also lists what owners complain about and where opinions split.
Prices
The price on each card is the typical US price we saw on the date shown. Prices move; the button takes you to the live price.
Reader votes
If you own a pair you can vote ▲ (recommend) or ▼ (would not buy again) on its row. Those votes are shown separately as reader votes and are never mixed into the source count. One vote per browser per pair.
How we make money
Some buy buttons are affiliate links. If you buy through one we may earn a small commission at no cost to you. Affiliate rates never affect the order; the order is the count, most recommended first. No maker has paid to be on this page.
What we will never do
- Invent users, reviews, or star ratings.
- Copy other people's comments and present them as ours.
- Move a pair up because it pays more.
